Surf Scoter: Melanitta perspicillata Surf Scoters are winter residents around Vancouver Island. They have black bodies and heads with white patches on their foreheads and the nape of their necks. They have white eyes and very distinctive red, orange, and white bills. It feeds on mollusks and crustaceans.
