Rainbow Nudibranch: Dendronotus iris

Other Common Names: Giant Nudibranch, Giant Swimming Nudibranch

This nudibranch can grow as large as 30 cms. It is usually found crawling on sandy or mud bottoms. It is variably coloured but it can be identified by the white line along the dorsal edge of the foot. It is preyed upon by the Sunflower Star, but has the remarkable ability to 'swim' away if it comes in contact. This nudibranch is one of the creatures featured in the Deep Sea 3D produced by Imax and narrated by Johnny Depp.
