Bent-nose Macoma: Macoma nasuta

Common Names: Common Macoma

The posterior end of the valves bend to the right making this clam easy to identify. This clam ingests a great quantity of sediment, most of which is later ejected from the clam. This sediment makes it gritty and therefore is not commercially harvested, though, in the past it has been important for aboriginal populations and Chinese immigrant populations.
