Halibut

Halibut: Hippoglossus stenolepis

Easily the most sought after flatfish, Halibut can reach nearly 225 kgs, or 500 lbs, though typical adult Halibut weigh less than 45 kg, or 100 lbs. This giant among whitefish produces large meaty fillets. Smaller Halibut are called 'chickens' and are highly regarded for their taste. Recreational fishermen consider them to be great fighters and due to their large size require some pretty heavy tackle. Usally, a harpoon and a gaff are required to land one.
