Thatches Barnacles

Thatched Barnacle: Semibalanus cariosus

Thatched Barnacles  can be identified by the heavy ridging along the sides of the casing that makes them resemble a 'thatched hut'. This ridging is also said to resemble lava spilling out of  a volcano (see barnacle photo). They do well in surf-pounded habitat.
